Thomas Byars, MD

Medical Director

Dr. Byars grew up playing tennis and soccer and was very involved in the Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association (ALTA) and Junior Tournaments all over the state. For his undergraduate education, he attended the University of Virginia, and he attained his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia.

After finishing a year as Chief Resident, Dr. Byars pursued a primary care sports medicine fellowship at Vanderbilt Sports Medicine Center.

In August 2007, Dr. Byars returned to Atlanta to join Pediatric Orthopedic Associates. He currently serves as a team physician for several area high schools, Cobb Futbol Club-East and Druid Hills Youth Sports. As a non-operative orthopedist/sports medicine specialist, Dr. Byars brings a unique skill set to The Concussion Institute. He is one of only about 100 physicians in America with residency training in pediatrics, who has also completed a fellowship in sports medicine, and he also holds a Certificate of Added Qualification from the American Board of Pediatrics.
