Nationally Accredited Breast Center Program

The Cancer Institute at Gwinnett Medical Center provides the area’s top oncologists, radiologists and cancer treatment experts. Together with this breast care expertise, and based on a strict criteria from The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, Gwinnett Medical Center meets the rigorous national standards for the highest quality of care for women and men diagnosed with diseases of the breast. Meeting these 27 evidence-based standards of care, our team optimizes our approach to patient-centered care with:

  • Optimal coordination of care
  • Same-day surgical consults
  • On-site scheduling of follow-up appointments
  • Follow up imaging from an abnormal screening mammogram within three to five business days
  • Diagnostic imaging appointments for new findings— with same or next day appointments

The NAPBC promotes a holistic approach to treatment for patients diagnosed with diseases of the breast, and provides a framework for a continuum of care that meets the needs of the whole person and not just the disease.

Commission on Cancer Accreditation for Enhanced Care

Another nationally recognized program, the Commission on Cancer (COC) Accreditation, challenges cancer programs to enhance the care they provide by addressing patient-centered needs and measuring the quality of the care they deliver against national standards. A program of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS), CoC accredited cancer programs are dedicated to providing the best in patient-centered care by providing added value to patients. Patient outcomes are improved across all domains of care, including:

  • Access and service
  • Satisfaction and well-being
  • Quality of care
  • Cancer outcomes

“With our range of cancer care, including diagnosis, infusion and support services, among others, we are dedicated to making our patient care the best,” said GMC President and CEO Phil Wolfe. “While the expectations of accrediting organizations such as these continue to evolve, so do GMC’s standards – in an effort to coordinate the best treatment options available.”

Breast Imaging Center of Excellence

Through the American College of Radiology’s standards for national excellence in core requirements for mammography imaging, Gwinnett Medical Center has achieved both recognition as a Mammography Accredited Facility and the more advanced designation of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. This means that Gwinnett Medical Center meets both mandatory standards of imaging excellence, but also has earned accreditation in all of the American College of Radiology’ voluntary breast imaging accreditations and modules.

Such excellence in breast screening and diagnostic capabilities assures our patients that we have achieved a higher standard of care across a range of breast imaging modalities, including:
