Causes and Treatments for Back Pain

The human spine is a complicated structure and it can be vulnerable to a number of injuries and diseases. It can also be the source of tremendous pain and discomfort. Fortunately, there are many courses of back pain treatment available today that can bring relief. Download our Understanding Back Pain Guide to learn more about your treatment options.

Typical Reasons of Back Pain or Discomfort

Back Sprains or Strains

  • Caused by injury to the ligaments, tendons, or muscles that support the spine.

Spinal Nerve Compression

  • Can be caused by bone spurs, a thickened ligament or a herniated disc in the spine.

Bulging or Herniated Lumbar Disc

  • Caused when the content of the spinal disc protrudes through the discs protective outer layer, often resulting in nerve compression and pain.

Degenerative Disc Disease

  • This condition is often age-related, as the spinal bones degrade and the discs shrink.

Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction

  • This joint is where the spine meets the pelvis, and if it doesn't function normally it can lead to lower back and leg pain.

Uncommon Causes of Back Pain
