Lung Screening Center of Excellence at GMC

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths and the second leading cause of all deaths in the United States. CT screenings have been proven scientifically as a life-saving screening technique. For those at high risk, this means that tens of thousands of lives can be saved each year if screening is implemented responsibly, safely, efficiently and equitably.

The Cancer Institute's lung screening program is recognized by the Lung Cancer Alliance as a Center of Excellence. Based on this designation, we are committed to working collectively as a multidisciplinary team, including:

  • Oncologists
  • Oncology nurses
  • Pathologists
  • Pulmonologists
  • Radiation oncologists
  • Radiologists
  • Thoracic surgeons

Together, our team of specialists at the Cancer Institute at Gwinnett Medical Center carries out the process of screening, diagnosis and the continuum of care. We provide a high quality screening program that includes compliance with national standards on the most up-to-date best practices for education of the risks and benefits of screening and managing screening quality, radiation dose and diagnostic procedures. In addition, we refer those patients who still smoke to a smoking cessation program and provide results of the screening scans to patients or referring physicians in a timely manner.

The National Framework for Lung Cancer Screening Excellence and Continuum of Care is a program administered by the Lung Cancer Alliance. To learn more about the Lung Cancer Alliance, visit lungcanceralliance.org.
