Comprehensive Breast Cancer Treatments at the Cancer Institute at GMC

The team of breast specialists at Gwinnett Medical Center provide a multidisciplinary approach to care with a range of treatment options available. As part of a comprehensive care team, all breast specialists come together for the review and recommendations of care for your unique breast cancer diagnosis. The skilled team may recommend one specific treatment or a combination of treatments for optimal results that may include surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

Breast Surgery Expertise

At Gwinnett Medical Center, we pride ourselves in our ability to provide expert breast surgery and reconstructive services. Most often, with a breast cancer diagnosis, a lumpectomy or a mastectomy are performed when surgery is necessary. A lumpectomy removes the suspicious lump and a smaller portion of surrounding tissue and a mastectomy is the complete removal of one or both breasts and more extensive surrounding tissue. Your breast cancer team will talk with you about your options and what is the best care path for your individual needs.

Our Access Navigator will assist each patient in scheduling appointments with GMC’s network of surgeons offering same-day appointments for patients with positive biopsy results, whenever possible. This reduces the wait time from an abnormal finding to a breast surgical specialist appointment.
