Gwinnett Medical Center and Partnership Gwinnett Team Up for Breast Cancer Awareness

Quarterly health council breakfast tackles breast cancer and breast health

Lawrenceville, Ga.–Gwinnett Medical Center and Partnership Gwinnett, the community and economic development initiative led by the Gwinnett Chamber, hosted their final installment of their 2010 quarterly health council series: In the Battle Against Breast Cancer, Fight Like a Girl: A healthcare breakfast designed to educate you about breast health. The October 22 program drew in more than 150 community members.

Highlights for attendees included a number of educational booths as well as a “Fight Like a Girl” photo booth with free items, including a breast cancer bracelet. The first 50 registrants for the program also received a free “Fight Like a Girl” T-shirt.

Topics discussed included: prevention and detection, clinical trials and advances, local resources and services available for those affected by breast cancer and a testimony from a radiologist who discovered her own cancer.

“Healthcare and the life sciences are key industry focuses for our economic development efforts through Partnership Gwinnett,” said Nick Masino, VP of Economic Development and Partnership Gwinnett at the Gwinnett Chamber. “Collaborating with Gwinnett Medical Center to deliver solid programs and create a strong foundation and network of existing industry in this area is imperative and we’re thrilled to be working together.”

Speakers included Dr. Kimberly Hutcherson, GMC radiologist and breast cancer survivor, Jennifer Beck, American Cancer Society Patient Navigator and Cindy Snyder, RN, MSN, FNP-C, CBCN, Manger, GMC Oncology Services and Cancer Risk Counselor. Event sponsors included Gwinnett Technical College and Einstein’s Bagels.
