A Word From The Family Medicine Residency Director, Kevin E. Johnson, MD, FAAFP

Dr. Kevin JohnsonWelcome to the new Gwinnett Medical Center Family Medicine Residency. We are very excited to be developing, a state-of-the-art, unopposed Family Medicine Residency. Gwinnett Medical Center recognized a growing need for adequate primary care for this community, and has chosen to make a major investment to help address the community’s need by starting a Family Medicine Residency. The resources being provided are allowing us to develop innovative programs and excellent learning opportunities in a world-class medical center.

Gwinnett County is located minutes from everything Atlanta has to offer, while still maintaining quaint small town charm going back almost 300 years. Recreation opportunities abound, with several professional sports teams in the county including the Gwinnett Braves–the AAA affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, Lake Lanier and the Mall of Georgia, which is the largest shopping mall in the state! The county supports a diverse population of more than 825,000 with more than 50 languages spoken in its award winning public school system. Several of the communities within the county have been voted Best Places to Live by various magazines such as CNN Money and Family Circle. Still just a short drive to the beaches of Georgia and the Florida Gulf Coast, and less than an hour to the north Georgia mountains, Gwinnett truly is in the middle of it all!

From its humble beginnings at Joan Glancy Memorial Hospital our medical center has grown rapidly. With a recently added Open Heart program, a busy level II trauma center with a dedicated pediatrics emergency department, planned expansion that will add almost 100,000 square feet of care to the beautiful Women’s Pavilion, GMC provides outstanding medical care to the citizens of the county.

The faculty and community physicians are enthusiastic about training their new future colleagues. Picture yourself here: working here, living here and playing here!
