What is Wellness 180?

Wellness 180 is a physician-supervised program with a six-month (180 day) patient/caregiver commitment. It's a family-centered program just for middle school and high school aged youth (11-17 years of age).

Why Wellness 180?

The goal of Wellness 180 is to establish healthy habits, weight loss and/or maintenance, improve sleep hygiene, address diet and nutrition, increase activity and decrease screen time, and overall have a positive impact on health!

Tell me more about Dr. Lin!

James H. Lin, MD, received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Duke University, and his Medical Degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He then completed his pediatrics internship and residency with the Emory University School of Medicine. He has been practicing general pediatrics for over 20 years, taking care of children from birth through the teenage years. Dr. Lin has received the Patient’s Choice Aware (2008, 2009, 2012) and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2014) from Vitals.com. He has hospital affiliations with Gwinnett Medical Center and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Who can qualify for this program?

  • Patients must be 11-17 years of age.
  • BMI in the 95th percentile or 85th percentile with a co-morbid condition (a co-morbid condition could mean a cholesterol problem, high blood pressure, pre-diabetes, sleep apnea, depression or others. Dr. Lin will go over the medical history in detail.)
  • A physician referral is NOT required.

Does this program use meal replacements?

No. Wellness 180 uses food-based therapy only.

How often does my child have to come to the Center for Weight Management?

The program involves 6 monthly appointments with our team. Our patient advocate will schedule those for you and you will have a doctor note for your school explaining this commitment.

Are support groups required?

Support group attendance is highly encouraged, but not required. We will meet once a month on Thursday's from 3-4:30 p.m., and the groups are individualized for middle school and high school students. A caregiver is required to attend as well.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes! We accept most major insurance plans and is subject to your out of pocket and deductible per your individual insurance. Of course, we will go over your insurance plan individually with you at your initial consultation with Dr. Lin.
