Weight Loss for Men Only

According to the National Weight Information Network, almost 3 out of every 4 men (74 percent) are considered to be overweight or obese. The Centers for Disease Control reports the male obesity rate to be 33 percent. Unlike women, men's weight gain usually consolidates around the waist area causing serious metabolic health concerns such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and obstructive sleep apnea along with several others. Obesity can also affect your sex life and hinder the ability to exercise and keep you from doing the things that you love.

Obesity Facts for Men?

  • Obesity is the major cause for type 2 non-insulin dependent diabetes. Research shows that a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes reduces life expectancy by as much as 35 percent! Diabetes can cause multiple other medical conditions such as amputations, heart disease, stroke, blindness and numerous other health conditions.
  • Obesity is a main contributor to high blood pressure and heart disease. Approximately 700,000 lives are lost each year to heart disease. Research shows that the higher your BMI, the higher the risk of heart attack and death.
  • Studies show that about 25 percent of people with severe obesity suffer from asthma. Additionally, the majority of people with severe obesity suffer from a potentially deadly breathing disorder called obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Obstructive sleep apnea causes a temporary pause in breathing and can contribute to low blood levels of oxygen, which may cause heart failure, sudden death and stroke.
  • Obesity is believed to cause approximately 90,000 cancer deaths every year. The higher the BMI, the greater the risk of cancer death from prostate, liver, kidney, pancreatic and gallbladder to name a few. Males with severe obesity are 52 percent more likely to die from any type of cancer.
