Symptoms of a Heart Attack in Women
Men and women often experience heart attacks very differently. While the classic heart attack symptoms, such as severe chest pain and an intense feeling of pressure in the center of the chest, neck, shoulder and jaw should never be ignored, some women never experience these symptoms.
In fact, some of the most common female heart attack symptoms mimic those of a stomach ailment.
Common signs of a heart attack in women include:
Shortness of breath
Nausea and dizziness
Lower chest discomfort
Abdominal discomfort that feels like indigestion
If you find yourself experiencing these symptoms—especially if they wake you out of a sound sleep or strike suddenly during the day—don’t hesitate. Call 911 and ask to be taken to the nearest heart center.
