This big event can leave you with lots of questions about caring for your newborn. But with the following information about our Newborn Services, you’ll be one step closer to being prepared for the arrival of your little one.
Newborn Screenings
After the birth of your baby at the Gwinnett Women’s Pavilion, there are many tests performed to screen for possible conditions that could affect your baby’s health.
Newborn Screening Blood Tests
For example, Newborn Screening Blood Tests check for a number of defects in body metabolism that an infant can inherit. If a condition is discovered early through a newborn screening, in many cases, there may be treatments available so that the child can lead a more normal life.
Newborn Hearing Screening Program
Also, the Newborn Hearing Screening Program provides a hearing screening for every infant. This screening is performed by a hearing screening technician who has been trained by a certified audiologist.
Congenital Heart Defects Testing
A congenital heart defect is a problem in any part of the heart that is present at birth. Heart defects usually happen during the first few weeks of pregnancy when the heart is forming. About 1 out of every 125 babies is born with a heart defect. A defect may be so small that a baby has few problems and appears healthy for many years. Some defects are serious and may cause severe health problems that can put a baby’s life in immediate danger. Pulse oximetry (pulse ox) is a simple and painless way to help screen your baby for a heart defect. It only takes a few minutes and measures the amount of oxygen in the blood. Online Photo Nursery
The Gwinnett Women’s Pavilion is happy to partner with Our365 to capture your baby’s newborn photo. Photos are taken in the intimate environment of your room and then securely posted to the baby’s own web page in the Our365 WebNursery®, where it can be shared with family and friends.
