Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)
Gwinnett Hospital System (GHS) is dedicated to providing the public with the critical information they need to know when selecting a hospital. For that reason, GHS was one of the first hospitals in Atlanta to voluntarily submit data to the JCAHO.
GHS remains committed to using this information to maintain a high level of quality healthcare. Physician-driven, multidisciplinary teams have focused on improving care provided to patients with heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia. Heart Attack
Quality Indicators Include:
- Ace inhibitor or ARB for left ventricular systolic dysfunction given at discharge
- Aspirin given at arrival
- Aspirin given at discharge
- Beta blocker given at arrival
- Beta blocker given at discharge
- Smoking cessation advice/counseling
- Thrombolytic medication within 30 minutes of arrival
January 2005, Gwinnett Medical Center became the second hospital in Georgia to receive accreditation as a Chest Pain Center from the Society for Chest Pain Centers.
Heart Failure
Quality Indicators Include:
- Ace inhibitor or ARB for left ventricular systolic dysfunction given at discharge
- Left Ventricular Function assessment
- Discharge instructions including diet, exercise, symptom management
- Smoking cessation advice/counseling
March 2005, GHS was recognized by Blue Cross Blue Shield as a best-practicing hospital in the care of heart failure patients.
Pneumonia
Quality Indicators Include:
- Pneumonia and influenza screening and vaccination
- Antibiotic timing within four hours after arrival
- Oxygenation assessment
- Smoking cessation advice/counseling
- Antibiotic selection
- Blood culture performed before first antibiotic given
March 2005, GHS was recognized by Blue Cross Blue Shield as a best-practicing hospital in the care of pneumonia patients.
