An Interfaith Program of Faith Community Nursing.....whole person health
Congregational Health Ministry combines the personal and material resources of the hospital, Parish Nurses, congregations and the community. Linked together in partnership, these groups work to enhance wellness and wholeness for those people living in Gwinnett County and surrounding areas.
A Parish Nurse...
- Enhances the health of members of the congregation and community by leading them toward physical, social, emotional and spiritual wholeness in their lives
- Serves as a member of the church ministerial team
- Combines professional nursing experience and knowledge with theological concepts to facilitate the mission of the faith community for healing and wholeness
- Supports church ministers in situations that require knowledge of healthcare and the healthcare system
- Leads and mentors volunteers to serve as members of the Health Ministry team
- Integrates the spiritual dimension and the faith belief system of the client in all interactions
- Affirms the faith belief that a Higher Power desires that we care for mind, body and spirit to live healthy lives.
The key components of a Congregational Health Ministry include:
- Personal health counseling
- Health education
- Facilitating volunteers
- Screenings
- Referrals to community resources
- Hospital and home visits
- Support Groups
- Health promotion
As communities of faith, congregations serve as agencies for health and healing in all areas of life. Healing resources include worship, services for emotional and spiritual healing , prayer, sacraments, education, fellowship and service.
