Cardiac Services

More than twenty years ago, Gwinnett Medical Center was completed. At that time the population of Gwinnett County was approximately 180,000. Our county now is the home to over 750,000 people. As the population of our county increases, we at Gwinnett Medical Center see an increase in the number of patients with cardiac and vascular diseases.

Over the years, we at Gwinnett Hospital System have worked diligently to improve and expand the cardiac and vascular care we provide to our growing community. Residents of Gwinnett and surrounding counties with heart or vascular disease can benefit by our accredited Chest Pain Center, Cardiac Wellness Center, Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Cardiology Department. Listed below is a sample of recognition we have achieved in an effort to better serve local residents.

• In the late nineties, the Cardiology Department became an Accredited Vascular Laboratory in the area of Arterial and Peripheral Venous Testing.
• In January of 2005, Gwinnett Medical Center became the second hospital in Georgia to receive accreditation as a Chest Pain Center from the Society for Chest Pain Centers.
• Gwinnett Hospital System was recognized by Blue Cross/Blue Shield in March of 2005 as a best-practicing hospital in the care of Heart Failure patients.
• Gwinnet Medical’s Cardiac Wellness Program is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary rehabilitation.
• Stroke is the third leading cause of death in our country. The treatment of carotid artery disease is aimed at the prevention of primary or secondary strokes. In March of 2006, the Cardiac Catheterization Lab performed its first carotid angioplasty. This procedure was approved by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services for a specific patient population in an effort to further reduce the risk of stroke.
• Gwinnett Hospital System received the prestigious Health Grades designation in 2006, ranking us in the top 5% of hospitals in the country.
