How do I know my baby is getting enough milk?

 

Signs that your newborn baby is getting enough milk include:

  • Swallows during feedings
  • Breastfeeds 8-12 times in 24 hours
  • 6-8 wet and 3-5 dirty diapers in 24 hours
  • Moist mouth and lips
  • Wakes for most feedings around the clock
  • Happy after breastfeeding most of the time
  • Regains or nearly regains his birth weight by two weeks of age

Signs that your older baby is getting enough milk include:

  • Several very wet diapers everyday
  • Soft yellow stool every few days
  • Contented during and after most feedings
  • Reaches growth and developmental milestones
