Gwinnett Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit offers a state-of-the-art Milk Laboratory to newborns and their mothers. This facility is staffed by technicians that are trained in aseptic technique (no touch milk preparation) and is under the direction of a registered dietitian and lactation consultant experienced in neonatal nutrition.
Our Milk Laboratory meets the latest guidelines of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as local laws and regulations. It’s equipped with commercial-grade storage and laboratory mixing equipment, and protected by the SafeBabyBMT (breast milk tracking) barcode labeling system, which ensures babies receive only their mother’s own milk.
We know there are multiple variables that can occur when having a baby. This is why we also stock nutrition additives and donor milk for moms who don’t have enough milk for premature and sick infants.
