How do I make an appointment with Gwinnett SportsRehab?
Answer: Call 678-312-7440 for the Duluth office or call 678-312-2803 for the Lawrenceville office.
What am I required to bring to my appointment?
Answer: You must have a doctor’s prescription for therapy. Physical and occupational therapists are required by state law to have this prescription to treat you. Please also bring your insurance card, driver’s license and, if applicable, co-payment. Wear comfortable clothes as related to your diagnosis. If your knee is hurt, for example, we need to see it…so bring shorts or wear something with wide pant legs.
How often do I need to come in?
Answer: That is up to you, your doctor and your therapist. It is based upon your evaluation and the subsequent discussion you have with your therapist concerning your rehabilitation goals. Some prescriptions will have a recommended frequency and duration, but your treatments are based upon goals discussed at your first visit. If you meet your goals quickly, you may not need to come as long as originally prescribed or recommended at the outset. If you need more visits, we will provide progress notes that hopefully justify more visits to your doctor and/or your insurance company.
When will I be discharged?
Answer: You are discharged when you meet your goals. That being said, there are other variables that affect your “length of stay.” Your insurance may have a visit limit or a 60-day limit, for example. In the event that you either show no signs of improvement or demonstrate very rapid improvement, we will communicate with your doctor and recommend discharge prior to expiration of your prescription.
Do you communicate with my doctor?
Answer: Yes. We send an initial report of your first visit here and, if you inform us of your next visit to your doctor, we will provide a subsequent progress note. We commonly initiate calls to your physician if you demonstrate “atypical” progression related to your diagnosis.
Do you accept prescriptions or referrals from all doctors?
Answer: Physical and occupational therapists work closely with doctors of medicine (MDs) and doctors of osteopathic medicine (DOs). This includes referrals from your family doctor and/or your specialist. We also accept referrals from doctors of podiatric medicine (foot specialists, DPMs). We do not accept referrals from chiropractors.
Can I get a massage at your clinic(s)?
Answer: Yes, but only as a means of achieving a goal and/or as part of your rehab plan of care. Massage only is not a therapeutic rehabilitation technique, so we will suggest that you seek the services of a massage therapist.
Do you provide supplies, like a walker or a brace?
Answer: No. We do not carry assistive devices, braces, compression garments or soft goods at our clinics. We will recommend various supplies or devices that you might need and resources for attaining those items. However, our certified hand therapists will make a custom splint for your hand or wrist as ordered by your physician.
What is the HydroTrack?
Answer: The HydroTrack is an underwater treadmill located at our Lawrenceville clinic. It is optimal for partial weight bearing or “unloading” of your back, hips, knees or ankles.
