Gwinnett Medical Center Tobacco-Free Campus Policy

Gwinnett Medical Center is committed to leading by example in establishing, maintaining and promoting a healthy and safe environment for everyone.

We believe—and national studies show—that hospitals and other healthcare organizations that permit tobacco/nicotine usage send a message to healthcare consumers that tobacco/nicotine is not a health hazard.

The health impact of tobacco/nicotine use has a devastating effect on individuals and communities. Tobacco/nicotine is the number one cause of preventable disease and death in the United States. We believe the healthcare industry—including Gwinnett Medical Center—must lead the way in reducing tobacco/nicotine usage and the accompanying suffering and economic loss.

Therefore, effective July 1, 2010 Gwinnett Medical Center will not hire any individual who uses tobacco/nicotine in any form. This includes all smoking cessation products and any product containing nicotine. This policy applies to any job applicant, including previous employees.

As an applicant for employment at Gwinnett Medical Center, I verify that I do not use any tobacco or nicotine product, such as cigarettes, cigars, chew, snuff, pipe, nicotine gum or patch, electronic cigarettes, etc.

I understand that a contingent offer of employment is dependent upon me verifying my non-tobacco, non-nicotine use by signing this document.

I also understand that upon a contingent job offer, I will be tested for tobacco/nicotine usage. If the results are positive, the job offer will be rescinded.
