The Joint Commission (TJC)
Gwinnett Hospital System (GHS) is dedicated to providing the public with the critical information they need to know when selecting a hospital. For that reason, GHS was one of the first hospitals in Atlanta to voluntarily submit data to The Joint Commission.
GHS remains committed to using this information to maintain a high level of quality healthcare. Physician-driven, multidisciplinary teams have focused on improving care provided to patients with heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia. Heart Attack
Quality indicators include:
- ACE inhibitor or ARB for left ventricular systolic dysfunction given at discharge
- Aspirin given at arrival
- Aspirin given at discharge
- Beta blocker given at discharge
- Smoking cessation advice/counseling
- Thrombolytic medication within 30 minutes of arrival
In December, 2008, Gwinnett Medical Center received their second accreditation as a Chest Paint Center from the Society for Chest Pain Centers.
Heart Failure
Quality indicators include:
- ACE inhibitor or ARB for left ventricular systolic dysfunction given at discharge
- Left ventricular function assessment
- Discharge instructions including diet, exercise, symptom management, medications, weight monitoring, and when to call the physician
- Smoking cessation advice/counseling
Pneumonia
Quality indicators include:
- Pneumonia and influenza screening and vaccination
- Antibiotic timing within six hours of arrival
- Smoking cessation advice/counseling
- Antibiotic selection
- Blood culture performed before first antibiotic given
Surgical Care Improvement Project
Quality indicators include:
- Antibiotics received one hour prior to surgery
- Appropriate antibiotic selection
- Antibiotics stopped at the right time
- Hair removed using a safer method
- Correct use of beta blocker therapy
- Treatment to prevent blood clots for certain types of surgery
