Recently, Gwinnett Medical Center-Duluth’s (GMC-Duluth) President Lea Bay was presented with the 2013 Professional Achievement Award by the Institute of Health Administration at Georgia State University. This award is given on an annual basis to an alumnus who has demonstrated achievements in leadership, contributions to health administration and the community, and dedication to graduate education in health administration.
Bay began her career as an administrative resident at Gwinnett Medical Center and then accepted a position as administrative coordinator at Glancy Rehabilitation Center. Eventually she was named vice president and then moved into her current role as president of GMC-Duluth. Bay is board certified in healthcare management (FACHE).
Several years ago, Bay led the establishment of GMC-Duluth to replace Joan Glancy Memorial Hospital. Since its opening, she expanded services based on community assessments to include the Center for Surgical Weight Management.
Additionally, GMC-Duluth’s highly successful sports medicine program, which attracts a range of athletes from across north metro Atlanta, includes the Concussion Institute. As the southeast’s only comprehensive concussion treatment center, this facility houses state-of-the-art technology and a team of highly skilled experts committed to raising the standard of care for athletes who suffer from a concussion.
An avid runner, Bay enjoys spending quality time with her husband and ten year old twins. She received her bachelor’s of business administration from Emory University and a master’s of business administration and a master’s of health administration from Georgia State University.
