Gwinnett Medical Center Earns Cancer Rehab Certification

Gwinnett Medical Center (GMC) has announced that its cancer rehabilitation services have earned STAR Program® Certification. The Massachusetts-based Oncology Rehab Partners, experts in the field of survivorship care, awarded this designation to both of GMC’s Gwinnett SportsRehab facilities located in Duluth and Lawrenceville.

STAR Program Certification is a conventional medicine and evidence-based standardized model of oncology rehabilitation service delivery. STAR Program Certification uniquely qualifies GMC to offer Oncology Rehabilitation Services to survivors who suffer from debilitating side effects, caused by treatments.

“Specialty caregivers from a pool of disciplines--including physicians, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, speech pathologists, etc.--will work together with each patient on a personalized rehabilitation plan to increase strength and energy, alleviate pain, and improve daily function and quality of life,” said KatherineMichaud, director, Oncology Services at Gwinnett Medical Center.

“It’s critical for cancer survivors to be free of debilitating side effects that can be controlled or prohibited; this program helps eliminate or reduce those,” she continued.

These services are covered by health insurance providers and will be offered to patients by a knowledgeable and sensitive medical staff that is specially trained to work with survivors of all forms of cancer. For more information, patients should call 678-312-2803, ext. 0.
