GMC-Lawrenceville ICU Receives its Fourth Beacon Award for Excellence

01.11.2012

GMC’s Intensive Care Unit was awarded its Fourth AACN Beacon Award for Excellence. The American Association of Critical Care Nurses created the Beacon Award to recognize individual units that distinguish themselves by improving every facet of patient care. For our patients, the Beacon Award signifies exceptional care through improved outcomes and greater overall satisfaction. For critical care nurses, it means a positive, supportive work environment with greater collaboration between colleagues and leaders, higher morale and lower turnover.

The award incorporates leadership structures and systems, appropriate staffing and staff engagement, effective communication, knowledge management and best practices, evidenced based practices and processes and patient outcomes and as of November 2010. It also contains criteria that closely aligns it with other programs—such as the Magnet Recognition Program and the Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award.
