New Chief Medical Officer and Chief Operating Officer

Gwinnett Medical Center has announced the hiring of two new executive staff members.

Alan Bier, MD, MMM, FCCP CPE, has accepted the role of executive vice president and chief medical officer.  Jeffrey D. Nowlin, CHE, has accepted the role of executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Alan Bier   Alan Bier, MD, MMM, FCCP CPE, comes to GMC from Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London, Conn., where he has served as vice president for medical affairs and chief medical officer since 1998. As a member of the senior management team at Lawrence & Memorial, Dr. Bier supported medical staff governance and affairs and oversaw Medical Staff development, quality management, risk management, case management and process innovation. Dr. Bier completed medical school at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York, N.Y., and completed his master’s in medical management at the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans, La.  He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care.
Jeff Nowlin   Jeffrey D. Nowlin, CHE, comes to us from Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in Houston, Texas; where he has served as chief operations officer for two hospitals in the System, most recently at the 520-bed Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center.  Prior to joining Memorial Hermann, Jeff’s previous healthcare experience included executive roles at Hillcrest Healthcare System in Tulsa, Okla., along with work with the BJC Healthcare System in St. Louis, Mo.Nowlin earned his BBA in Management & Marketing from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and his MHA from the Washington School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo.
