Gwinnett Medical Center is committed to helping our community learn how to manage and prevent diabetes. Our outpatient diabetes education program is nationally recognized by the American Diabetes Association, and is run by a team of nurses and registered dietitians specially trained and certified in diabetes management and insulin pump training.
We offer a variety of programs designed to help existing diabetes patients, newly diagnosed people and those with pre-diabetes. Programs include:
Offered for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Learn how nutrition, exercise, blood glucose monitoring and medications can help you take charge of your diabetes and enable you to live a full and healthy life.
If you’ve been diagnosed with pre-diabetes, this class is for you. Designed for those people at risk for Type 2 diabetes, it will teach you how you can delay or prevent the onset of Type 2 diabetes.
Insulin Pump Training
Designed for individuals moving to an insulin pump for their diabetes management, this class includes hands-on instruction on pump technology. Participants will be wearing and using their pumps by the time they leave.
Gestational Diabetes Class
A special class for expectant mothers diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Participants will leave with a personalized meal plan. Classes are held weekly at our Lawrenceville office.
