Please join Gwinnett Medical Center in recognizing the Oncology Data Center’s Certified Tumor Registrars (CTR) during the 16th annual National Cancer Registrars Week (NCRW), April 9–13—a week designed to recognize the important contributions made by cancer registry professionals. The 2012 theme, Cancer Registrars: Partners in Progress., demonstrates that cancer registry professionals are a vital source on the road to cancer control and a cure. Cancer registry professionals pave that road with their skill and commitment to collecting and processing quality cancer data. Thanks to our CTRs and staff: Debra Fortier RHIA, CTR, , Ify Nwadiogbu RHIA, CTR , John Cummings CTR, Esther Assi CTR, and Diane Plyler.
The Sixth Annual Cancer Survivor Celebration was held at the grand opening of the state-of-the-art, all-digital Gwinnett Breast Center at GMC-Lawencceville. More than 200 cancer survivors and guests gathered to celebrate the opening of the Gwinnett Breast Center and recognize cancer survivors in our community. Two breast cancer survivors, Kimberly Hutcherson, MD, and Cavelle Dudley, shared their inspiring stories of triumph. Clyde and Sandra Strickland were awarded the 2011 Legacy Award, which is presented each year to an individual or individuals for their dedication to the fight against breast cancer. The program also included a tour of the Gwinnett Breast Center, refreshments, door prizes and more. The Sport of Giving has donated over $1 million to GMC Foundation over the past ten years. Recently, the group toured GMC’s new Breast Health Center, currently under construction. The new center will house the latest in diagnostic technology and equipment and the Women’s Pavilion.

Gwinnett Medical Center associates created a video in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. Contributions can be applied much more quickly to fund programs and expand services to better serve our community.
