Low Vision Therapy

The Low Vision Therapy Program at Gwinnett SportsRehab helps individuals who experience low vision caused by diabetes, glaucoma or macular degeneration that cannot be helped by standard interventions, such as glasses, contact lenses, medication or surgery.  Low Vision Therapy specializes in:

  • Evaluation of vision loss that impacts reading
  • Education and training in visual techniques that compensate for vision loss
  • On-site home evaluations and recommendations to promote safety and independence
  • Personalized training in the use of the latest advanced visual aids and adaptive equipment, such as magnifiers, talking watches and large print checks, books and telephones
  • Risk assessment to promote safety and prevent falls

Treatment Approach

Low Vision Therapy is provided by occupational therapists with specialized training.  The therapists help individuals with low vision regain and maintain independent livising skills by teaching compensatory methods and incorporating adaptive devices.  Most clients experience an increased level of independence in just four to eight sessions.
